Overview

The Side Hustle Up program’s purpose is to help people in the Geelong community to follow their passion so they can generate an income separate from their day to day job.

The program is FREE and provides training from leading industry experts to help you transform your idea into viable businesses.

Whether you are wanting to sell your artwork online, set up a clothing store or offer tutoring, this program will take you to step by step, with industry experts to launch your side hustle.

Eligibility Criteria

✔  TRAINING IN CLASSROOM   (Mandatory)
✔  2 days per week x 8 weeks
✔  Hours: 9.00am to 3.00pm
✔  Must be 18 years old or over
✔  Reside within “G21” Geelong Region
✔  Must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
✔  Not be an overseas visitor or student
✔  Sufficient I.T. competencies to operate eCommerce site/business
✔  Internet access is a requirement
✔  Be independent, capable of withstanding public scrutiny, and lawful
✔  Appropriate insurance for business purposes must be held
✔  Not be an “undischarged” bankrupt.

Units

1. Confirm your niche
Understand your target market and get an intro into eCommerce, 2020 consumer trends, and forecasting to explore your niche.

exercise: identification of your niche in the market.

2. Develop an eCommerce business model

Explore eCommerce business models, budgeting, licencing and financial models.

exercise: create an eCommerce Business Plan for your business.

3. Decide on business name & branding

Get an intro into branding, design tools and brand strategy. 

exercise: complete a brand strategy canvas.

4. Set up online

Learn how to build a digital footprint- domains, tricks and tools.

exercise: set your business up online.

5. Understand Shopify

Get an intro into Shopify- it’s themes and must know plugins for your eCommerce store to be setup for success. 

exercise: decide on a theme and plugins that best fit your needs.

6. Test quickly with wireframes
Make wireframes for your website to test quickly and iron out kinks pre-build.

exercise: draw up basic wireframes for your site and test in class.

7. Understand marketing channels

Get an overview of digital channels, digital marketing, Facebook (organic and paid), Google (SEO and paid ads), Google Merchant Centre and Keyword Research.

exercise: Build Facebook and Google ads.

8. Understand marketing metrics

Understand what different metrics mean what and how to market on a budget. Includes tracking, attribution models and strategy basics. 

exercise: develop a marketing strategy canvas.

9. Convert website traffic
Learn best practices in converting website traffic into purchases. Includes conversion rate overview and optimisation, using data and finding insight and putting customer first.

A side hustle is something you do separate from your day to day job that earns you money. A side hustle is generally something someone is passionate about. 

How much does the course cost?

The course is FREE. 

What background and skills should participants have?

Participants need general computer skills and a passion for their chosen idea. 

Can I work full time while enrolled for this course?

You can be employed full time casual, part-time and underemployed.

You will need to commit to attending the course which will run from 9:00 am-3:00 pm two days per week for 8 weeks.

What outcomes can you expect from the course?

At the end of the course, you will have the skills and knowledge to successfully take your side hustle online, as well as, launching your site at the completion of the course.
